Description
The narrow-billed tody (Todus angustirostris) is a species of bird in the Todidae family, and one of two Todus species found on Hispaniola (split between Haiti and the Dominican Republic), along with the broad-billed tody (Todus subulatus), where it is endemic. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist montane forests and heavily degraded former forest.
Size
11 cm
Feeding Habits
Narrow-billed Tody primarily consumes insects. It employs active foraging techniques to hunt, often catching prey mid-air. Unique adaptations include a slender bill for probing into crevices. Prefers daylight feeding.
Habitat
Narrow-billed Tody typically inhabits dense, moist jungles and high-altitude forests within broad geographic regions that include tropical climates. Although mainly found at higher elevations, narrow-billed Tody can also be present at lower altitudes in these habitats, occasionally overlapping with the habitat of Todus subulatus. These regions characterize environments that are optimal for the species' survival and behaviors.
Dite type
Insectivorous
