Description
The Surucua trogon (Trogon surrucura) is a species of bird in the family Trogonidae. It is found in humid forest and nearby habitats in south-eastern Brazil, eastern Paraguay, and far north-eastern Argentina and Uruguay. It includes two subspecies; the southern nominate subspecies with a red belly and the northern aurantius with an orange-yellow belly. The latter has sometimes been considered a separate species, the Brazilian trogon (Trogon aurantius). The name orange-bellied trogon has also been suggested, but this leads to confusion with the Central American Trogon aurantiiventris.

Feeding Habits
Surucua Trogon's diet includes insects like beetles and caterpillars, and fruits from Cecropiaceae and Euphorbiaceae families. Surucua Trogon captures prey mid-flight or plucks from vegetation, occasionally joining mixed-species flocks to forage, and also consumes seeds and flowers.
Habitat
The surucua Trogon's natural habitat encompasses the midstorey of primary and tall secondary forests, as well as semi-deciduous woodlands. These environments are typically dense with foliage and often feature undergrowths rich in bamboo or entwined with numerous lianas. Surucua Trogon resides in broader regions which include lush, forested areas with a complex vertical structure, favorable for their perching and foraging needs.
