Description
The black cuckoo-dove (Turacoena modesta), also known as the slaty cuckoo-dove is a species of bird in the family Columbidae. It is endemic to the islands of Timor and Wetar. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical dry forest and subtropical or tropical moist lowland forest. It is threatened by habitat loss.

Black Cuckoo-dove is predominantly frugivorous, foraging mainly at medium heights within bushes and small trees. Often found either solitary or in pairs, black Cuckoo-dove displays no unique dietary adaptations besides a preference for fruit.
Habitat
The habitat of black Cuckoo-dove predominantly comprises primary and tall secondary monsoon forests, as well as woodlands and regions with tall secondary growth. These birds are often found in areas that both have dense forest coverage and those that are more open, such as eucalyptus forests positioned alongside watercourses.
