Feeding Habits
Red-legged Thrush primarily consumes fruits complemented by insects like caterpillars and beetles, with a diet about one-third animal matter including snails, frogs, lizards, and birds' eggs. Red-legged Thrush showcases diverse foraging techniques.
Habitat
Red-legged Thrush predominantly inhabits subtropical and tropical regions characterized by various forest types, including dry, moist lowland, moist montane, and areas with significant anthropogenic degradation. They show an affinity for forest edges and secondary growth rather than deep primary forests. Moreover, red-legged Thrush can adapt to human-disturbed habitats, such as shade coffee plantations, more so than in sun coffee plantations. They are relatively tolerant of seasonally xeric woodlands and can occasionally be found in pine forests with open canopies and dense understories. Red-legged Thrush is less common in urban areas but may nest in regions with green spaces and tall trees. However, their adaptability has limits, as they are less frequent in heavily disturbed habitats.
