Description
Tickell's thrush (Turdus unicolor) is a passerine bird in the thrush family Turdidae. It is common in open forest in the Himalayas, and migrates seasonally into peninsular India and rarely in Bangladesh. The name commemorates the British ornithologist Samuel Tickell who collected in India and Burma.

Feeding Habits
Tickell's Thrush primarily consumes earthworms, insects, and fruit, often seen bringing grubs to nestlings. Tickell's Thrush forages on bare ground and in short-herb substrates, utilizing a 'hop and pause' technique. In winter, tickell's Thrush may feed in loose groups.
Habitat
Tickell's Thrush typically resides in open montane forests with a penchant for environments that feature grassy or bare grounds. The species favors habitats that encompass mixed broadleaf and coniferous woodlands, including areas with a dispersion of deciduous trees interspersed with grassy patches. Further, tickell's Thrush is known to occupy gardens, orchards, and landscapes altered by agriculture, such as terraced fields with mixed vegetation. In the non-breeding season, it prefers forest edges, well-wooded lowlands, and groves reflective of its adaptive nature.

Distribution Area
Populations move further south in India in winter. Tickell's thrush is are omnivorous, eating a wide range of insects, earthworms and berries. It nests in bushes. It does not form flocks, but loose groups of two to five spread across tens of meters were spotted in Nawabganj Bird Sanctuary, Unnao and SGPGIMS Campus, Lucknow Uttar Pradesh, India.
