These birds favor arid and semi-arid acacia savanna habitats characterized by thickets and thornbush scrub, primarily consisting of Acacia and Commiphora species. The preferred environments are often associated with areas receiving annual rainfall between 250-1000 mm. Blue-capped Cordonbleu can be found from the lowlands up to elevations of 1300 meters.
