Feeding Habits
Thick-billed Vireo primarily feeds on insects like caterpillars and dragonflies. They also consume some fruits including Bursera simaruba. Their foraging involves actively searching foliage and branches.
Habitat
Thick-billed Vireo predominantly occupies woodlands and dense scrublands across its range. They favor more mature and taller vegetation over disturbed habitats and show a preference for mixed pine forests over pure pine stands. Notably, thick-billed Vireo is more abundant in second-growth coppice compared to old-growth stands, illustrating a tendency towards regenerating woodland areas. This species is significantly associated with native dry forest habitats and exhibits variation in its habitat use, which is evidenced by stable isotope analysis of their tissues, reflecting consistency in occupying either dry or wet environments.
