Feeding Habits
Elegant Woodcreeper primarily consumes arthropods like beetles and orthopterans, occasionally preying on small vertebrates. Typically forages in mixed-species flocks, showing a preference for lower strata and avoiding cockroaches. Specializes in hitching up trunks and branches while pecking or probing for prey, sometimes participating in army-ant swarms but exhibiting aggression towards other birds.
Habitat
Elegant Woodcreeper primarily dwells in humid evergreen forests of the Amazonian lowlands, favoring terra firme and floodplain environments. The species is occasionally found in marginally flooded forests, including várzea and igapó, and has been observed inhabiting forested river islands. Elegant Woodcreeper also inhabits gallery forests and woodlands within the Cerrado region and may venture into subtropical montane evergreen forests. Though mainly recorded in mature forest interiors, elegant Woodcreeper's presence in secondary growths, Guadua bamboo thickets, or forest peripheries has been noted.
