Feeding Habits
Black-striped Woodcreeper primarily consumes arthropods and small vertebrates, foraging along tree trunks with a specialized technique that involves probing into crevices with its bill to extract prey.
Habitat
Black-striped Woodcreeper primarily inhabits humid lowland forests with a significant presence in evergreen forests and, at times, in distinct mangrove ecosystems. This species dwells predominantly in the interior of mature, tall forests but is also found at forest edges, gaps, and in older secondary growth areas. It occasionally inhabits tree plantations, requiring environments that have patchy to continuous forest coverage, often characterized by the presence of tall trees. Black-striped Woodcreeper is mostly found in the tropical zone from sea-level up to 1,000 meters and, at certain locales, extends its range into the subtropical zone up to 1,200 meters in Costa Rica and 1,500 meters in Colombia.
