Description

The chestnut-rumped woodcreeper (Xiphorhynchus pardalotus) is a species of perching bird. Like the other woodcreepers, it belongs to the subfamily Dendrocolaptinae of the ovenbird family (Furnariidae). It is found in Brazil, French Guiana, Guyana, Suriname, and Venezuela. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests and subtropical or tropical moist montane forests.

Chestnut-rumped Woodcreeper primarily consume insects, including spiders, grasshoppers, beetles, and more. Foraging from understory to canopy, chestnut-rumped Woodcreeper glean prey from surfaces or probe into crevices, occasionally following army ants for food. Distinctive for joining mixed-species flocks and their rapid, hitching movement up trunks during foraging.
Habitat
The chestnut-rumped Woodcreeper typically inhabits the interior of mature lowland evergreen forests, with a preference for tall terra firme forests but can also be found in lower montane forests within the tepui region. It is occasionally present in floodplain-forests, wooded savannas in the northern part of its range, older secondary growths, plantations, and areas near forest edges.
