Description
The forest bittern (Zonerodius heliosylus) is a bird indigenous to New Guinea. It is the only member of the genus Zonerodius and is also known as the New Guinea tiger heron.

Feeding Habits
Forest Bittern consumes crayfish, crustaceans, small fish, water beetles, insects, snakes, and lizards. Forages solitarily by water, camouflaged by plants.
Habitat
The forest Bittern is typically found in densely forested areas, preferring environments near streams, rivers, pools, and swamps. This bird is predominantly associated with lowland tropical rainforests but can occur in similar habitats within subtropical regions as well.
