Description
The long-tailed thrush (Zoothera dixoni) is a species of bird in the family Turdidae. It is found from the central and eastern Himalayas to south-central and south-western China. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist montane forests and subtropical or tropical high-altitude shrubland. The scientific name, Zoothera dixoni, is named after ornithologist Charles Dixon.

Feeding Habits
Long-tailed Thrush primarily forages on the ground, consuming a variety of insects and invertebrates found in leaf litter along tracks and roadsides. These birds may form small flocks, especially outside the breeding season, and sometimes join mixed-species groups.
Habitat
The long-tailed Thrush predominantly inhabits dense, lush forests, favoring environments rich in evergreen vegetation such as fir, juniper, birch, and rhododendron within the Himalayan region and parts of East Asia. These birds are typically associated with both coniferous and broadleaf evergreen forests, often residing in areas characterized by thick undergrowth. During winter, the long-tailed Thrush can be found in a variety of wooded landscapes, occasionally near streams, extending to open bushy terrains and areas with secondary growth vegetation.
