27 cm
Feeding Habits
Russet-tailed Thrush's diet consists mainly of worms, insects, molluscs, and some fruit. It forages on the ground in forests, preferring to feed along edges and tracks during early morning hours. The New Guinea subspecies exhibits a unique bobbing behavior while foraging.
Habitat
Russet-tailed Thrush typically inhabits dense rainforests and moist eucalypt forests with a closed canopy and thick leaf litter. These environments offer a high level of humidity and substantial vegetative cover. Geographically, russet-tailed Thrush is found in broader regions encompassing both Australia and New Guinea, favoring parts of the forest that are not at extremes of altitude, thus providing a consistent, sheltered, and resource-rich ecosystem.
